You may already know that Zoom is an excellent way to conduct online meetings and webinars, but did you know that it can also be a tool for quickly recording your screen and audio? All you need is the Zoom Application and your built-in webcam and microphone.
To get started, open the Zoom application on your computer and click on New Meeting.
Now, you have started a "meeting" with yourself as the only participant. If you want to share your screen or an application such as PowerPoint, click on the green Share Screen button in the middle of the Zoom toolbar. In the window that appears, select the Desktop option to capture your entire desktop, or click on the specific application that you want to share e.g. PowerPoint. If you want to capture the audio from your computer or application, be sure to check the boxes Share Computer Sound and Optimize Screen Share for Video Clip. Once selected, click the Share Screen button and the chosen screen or application will have a green border around it to verify that it is being shared.
Now you are ready to record! At the top of the screen locate the tool bar menu. In this menu, click More and then select Record on this Computer.
There will now be an indicator on your screen verifying that the meeting is being recorded. You may want to make brief recording first to confirm that your equipment is working as expected.
When you are done recording, go back to the Zoom toolbar as pictured above, click on More, then End Meeting, End meeting for All. Once the meeting has ended, the Zoom app will begin compressing the screen recording and save it to your computer. Once your video is saved, it should appear in a window on your desktop. You can then edit it in your choice of video editing software if needed.
